Looks like he would leave Mich after all.
Nothing tangible ever really came out, or if it did, I missed it. I don't subscribe to any pay services, and am not asking for any protected info, but his departure came out of the blue. Maybe it was a case of MF wanting to bring in his own guy, or Elston simply saw an opportunity to return to his alma mater. But Elston, and his family, loved ND and were not shy about proclaiming it. They were active on social media talking about how much they enjoyed the stability of raising kids in one place.
He did a terrific job for ND, and Michigan. Best to him in San Diego.
After the bowl game performance he probably wasn't going to get the gig. Nor should he have.
UM grad.
He was happy, and did a good job, but saw that his future had hit a ceiling and and thus he waited the right opportunity which eventually came up at his alma mater.

Moore must have known Elston was going to move on.
Big loss for them. Nice. Harbaugh is poaching their staff of DC, S&C coach, DL/recruiting coordinator, and very likely DB coach. Plus an OC to replace Moore.
Big win for ND to keep Bowden too.
