a Notre Dame site...explain why this university among so may others is wrong to sponsor DEI initiatives...this is just one segment of the nation's 'lived experience' that is taking action, I can give you a multitude of others that recognize the urgency of achieving greater Diversity, Equality and Inclusion.
iMO it is an undeniable fact that the USA is comprised of a multitude of different races, faiths, political philosophies, and yes, gender identities...this is reality...so, to get MAXIMUM production out of the population, ALL of them should feel just as valued as White, Christian Europeans...that is clearly not the case right now...therefore the effort to 'encourage' more appreciation of Diversity, Equality and Inclusion...for all citizens.
As for immigrants, we have always had quotas...we can't take in everyone who would like to be an American, yet we regularly work (in Congress) to make them as fair as possible ...but we can definitely take in a significant number of immigrants given our demographic changes (e.g. retiring "Baby Boomers")...we NEED more workers, and the many immigrants I've come in contact with are ALL tax paying WORKERS...they are Vietnamese auto mechanics and surgeons, Hispanic contractors, Iranian (Muslim) chemistry professors, etc.
The fact of the matter is that the birth rate in the U.S. is not high enough to provide the needed workers...plus it would take far too long to provide the needed 'heads' in time to ensure continued growth...so, why not encourage more immigrants...they are all human beings, right, so they can be educated and 'inculcated' in American values and become valued co-workers and citizens...not sure why you're having trouble dealing with this reality.
I hesitate to ask, but must...what do you mean by "Diversity over and above societal unity"???
