So fascinating how the Nazis used the Reichstag fire as the excuse to round up the communist opposition, to give the Nazis (then the party in power) the power to put troops in the streets of Berlin. They were looking for an excuse to arrest the opposition, and the attack on their capitol building gave them the excuse.
They talk about how the Nazi leadership had an inverted moral compass, in that they firmly believed they were doing the morally good thing in getting rid of the dangerous communists. They used the German justice system to arrest their political opponents, and felt 100% justified in doing so.
Fire chief, who made statements that Nazis were involved in the fire, was arrested later for "abuse of office" and died of strangulation in prison.
