The only thing Demetrius Jackson is conveying is the fact that at the present moment, it would not be prudent to continue his studies at Notre Dame. At no time did he give an indication that he will not complete his studies at Notre Dame. The fact that he has met with an advisor to structure a plan for him to finish what he started at a later time indicates to me that he has every intent on graduating. The window for any athlete to earn a living playing a sport is a narrow one to say the least. The window for him to finish his studies is infintesimal by comparison.
Finally, we all need to remember the backstory behind DJ. He grew up in adverse situations and eventually needed to be adopted by a foster family. That very fact alone is most likely a profound driving force behind his decision to earn a substantial amount of money with hopes of eventually paying back those who have helped him along his path. I cannot fault him one bit for wanting that for himselves and his loved ones.
