There are other, proven receivers who are at best, second rounders, who would go ahead of ESB.
I'm not saying that it would have been impossible for him to be a 1st rounder, but that would have required two things:
1) Deshone Kizer staying for the 2017 season.
and
2) ESB not getting hammered on every pass play.
Kizer could hit receivers in stride, and threw an accurate long bomb. By hitting his WR's in stride, he'd protect them from getting clobbered the way ESB did in 2017 when Wimbush threw passes that were too high. ESB was actually lucky that he didn't break his neck last year on a couple of plays.
