defeat. I actually could find no proof of any concept that tried to neutralize Clemson's NFL quality DL. No unbalanced lines, no max protection, few 5 wides, few bubble screens, etc. When DE's run free at the QB, there is a problem with the concept.
What I found more troubling was how tight the coverage was the few times Book actually had time to throw. I know someone at the game said WRs were open, but I tend to believe the route concepts were pretty elementary. It doesn't take much film room study to understand pass patterns if they are repeated all year. This, again, points to some bad concepts. True, it wasn't Book's best game, but if a team's offensive success is totally dependent on a 75% passer, Houston, we have a problem.
Chip Long's genius was discredited tonight, along with the Pitt and USC games. Kelly 3.0 really needs to tear up the offensive playbook and start from scratch. Until his team builds an offensive system that is aggressive and focused on controlling the LOS, ND's chances in games like these will remain low. UGA is less than a year away; the next opportunity to really be exposed against a tier 1 program.
