Saw the game replay and could see it was clearly a blown call. Happened to catch ESPN Sportscenter which had the story "in toto."
Could have called PI given the receiver was rendered incapable of making a play on the ball. Besides we had an illegal chuck as the receiver was way past the 5 yard zone, face guarding as the DB was playing the receiver not the ball, and helmet to helmet contact (they had a camera with a better angle that clearly showed that).
They also interviewed the Ram DB who was surprised and quite happy there wasn't a flag. Basically the story cited in the thread.
Am going to guess that this play will have a silver lining ... aka the NO Rule ... judgement calls or non calls like a this play will be reviewable probably as a challenge and always in the last 2 minutes. Kind of ironically will l probably get a fine for the helmet hit and clemency for the various NO players who criticized the refs.
BTW apparently the CFL has had a rule like this for awhile. Also in passing NO got hit with another error like this in the drive before this one "that will live forever" around midfield as a receiver clearly got hit while the ball was in the air. Also maybe the gods or not were really with LA making the NO kicker miss from point blank range as time expired in regulation ... not likely but possible.
