I attended the Bishop's School v. Francis Parker football game at La Jolla High School Field last night. It was my first opportunity to watch Tyler Buchner play. Bishop's won the game 53-13.
I have never seen a HS player dominate a football game the way Buchner did. Of course, Francis Parker is not Mater Dei but neither is Bishop's. These are small private schools that play lower division football, but they do give scholarships to ringers: Shane Walton is an assistant football coach and the assistant athletic director at Bishop's.
TB's athletic skill was extremely impressive. He has a VERY strong arm and his passing was extremely accurate. I'm comfortable saying that he has a much stronger arm that our starter. And can he run! He was juking defensive players all night and he's a big kid. Based on what I saw last night, and assuming all goes well for him this season and next, I think he'll be a competitor for the starting QB job as a true freshman. He's that good.
