In all seriousness, though, Tommy Rees absolutely stunk when it came to playcalling. It was as if they defense knew what play we were running, despite the numerous changes in his "scan" offense.
There were many plays where Rees second guessed himself, just as he did when he was our QB in 2013.
There were also two big blown opportunities. One was at the end of the 1st half, where Mayer had caught a TD pass, but it was called back because they refs claimed that Mitchell Evans, a tight end, was an ineligible receiver.
Rees then went for it on 4th and 2, instead of kicking the field goal. I honestly don't know what play he called, but to not be able to pick up two yards with all of this talent is a criminal act in and of itself.
The Estime fumble in the red zone in the 2nd half was a killer, along with the reversal of Stanford's fumble by McKee.
Pyne played scared, and was obviously rattled. On the last 4th down and 8 play for us, he threw a pass to a very well covered receiver that was only 5 yards deep, and it got batted down. Even if the receiver had caught it, the play wouldn't have been enough.
To put it bluntly, everything that could have gone wrong did go wrong.
