1. Politics are not about ideas anymore, it's about how bad you can smear your opponent.
2. Moderators and panels don't ask questions to elicit good policy debate.
I've watched at least 10 house or senatorial debates. I've yet to watch the debate where Republican was asked what would you do specifically to bring gas prices down and fight the crime epidemic. Every answer is become more energy independent as that i is a policy position.
Same with crime and this goes with both sides. Although we can't policy our way out of crime why not have a substantive conversation about it?
