I think you understand my confusion as much as anyone here. We've given the government all of this responsibility and power to solve countless problems; nuanced problems that often don't have a good solution. Despite the diversity of ideas, we have large swaths of people that identify so closely with a single policy or party. Their ideas aren't there own. Their thoughts are just thoughts that someone else gave them. And the extent to which that political identity has embedded itself in these individuals has driven them to sabotage these elections. This speaks to the incredible breadth of mental health issues in this country.
You didn't ask about the psychological state of these Americans though. Your question was political and hypothetical (because the answer is obvious). You have to ask only one more question to get the answer: What happens when Republicans adopt this strategy? Independent and intelligent thinkers such as yourself will now get to pick between the two worst possible candidates from either party... all while insufferable assholes act like this conversation isn't even worth having.
Yes, it's a threat to Democracy. Any other answer isn't just wrong, it's immoral.
