Higher education as we know it is a lost cause. If your kid has an intrinsic thirst for learning or absolutely needs university degrees to pursue a particular career, choose wisely. Other than that, give your kids honest descriptions of what universities have become. There will be an emergence or transformation of a few universities that explicitly reject all that dominates our universities, but I don't like the long-term prospects of these alternatives. State legislatures need to cut funding, close many campuses, and, most of all, the parents who overwhelmingly pay the tuition dollars for undergrads need to cut off the food supply for the academic Leviathan.
