to be said in local languages with priests facing the congregation and lay persons serving as Eucharistic Ministers, etc....IMO just as the Holy Spirit gave the Apostles the "Gift of Tongues"...among many other changes. In short, the Council encouraged the RCC to interact with the MODERN world. (emphasis mine)...
Now, just as then, not everyone agreed, but it spawned fantastic Lay involvement everywhere and certainly got me more involved. Of course there is always the chance of overdoing it, but that means debate...without going back to pre-Vatican II days.
Can we agree on that and then tackle the contentious issues civilly?
