Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your perspective), the horses are already out of the barn, so its too late to close the door. I don't see any practical way to ban all firearms in the United States.
I also don't see any practical law being considered to remove guns from crime-ridden areas. They seem to want to focus on law abiding citizens and relatively crime free suburban areas. That's kind of like losing your keys in the driveway, but looking for them in your family room because there is more light there. Not only will it not solve the problem, it will make it worse.
