People who watch Fox News or MSNBC do so because they are fans of one political party or another. They want fed a narrative that makes them feel like they are rooting for the right team, regardless of the teams trading places on some issues, they will always go with the team. Free speech good! Oh, now free speech bad!
People who cheer for team progressive tend to be high in trait openness and low in conscientiousness. People who cheer for team conservative tend to be the opposite. What's pretty interesting is that Stanford researchers have created an AI algorithm that is 70% accurate at predicting political association from a single image of their face. So, how much agency does a person really have? It takes a lot of work (and a fair degree of mindfulness and introspection) to take an objective view of any situation or issue. It's much easier to just listen to the people you want to believe.
