European soccer’s governing body is set to penalize England’s national team after a fan shined a laser in the face of Denmark goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel during Wednesday’s Euro 2020 semi-final at Wembley Stadium in London.
The incident in question occurred during a crucial moment in the match before England’s Harry Kane took a penalty kick during extra time.
Schmeichel saved Kane’s penalty shot but the ball rebounded straight back to Kane he then easily scored to put England ahead 2-1, the winning margin.
Despite the Danish Football Association declining to file formal complaint, the Union of European Football Associations is investigating.

“The case will be dealt with by the Uefa Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) in due course,” the organization said in a statement to BBC News.
England will also be penalized for causing a “disturbance” during Denmark’s national anthem and setting off fireworks.
UEFA said officials tried to locate the laser pointers immediately during the game but were unable to locate them.
It’s not known when the punishment will be decided or handed down.
England will face Italy at Wembley Stadium on Sunday in the tournament’s championship match.
