his Battalion after getting that promotion...he earned his rank and his superiors had no problem with him assuming that role. Based on his 24 yrs of service it is highly unlikely that he would have failed to complete/pass the courses, so let's agree that his service should be Honored and stop the hair-splitting over the nuances of retirement rank...which is obviously politically motivated and not based on any lack of ability or quality in that service.
So, stop trying to make up a wound that doesn't exist ;-).
