Report from New Orleans

I decided at 11:30 to head to Bourbon Street last night because, well, a chance to celebrate the New Year on Bourbon Street was too good to pass up. My two brothers and nephew were too tired to go despite my urging, saying it would be a lifetime memory. My youngest brother was worried about my safety and I joked, well, if something happens then it really will be unforgettable.

About a 9-minute walk from our hotel and I arrived around 11:45. People everywhere having a great time. The 10-9-8 countdown started and everyone cheered at midnight. I stuck around another 15 minutes before making my way back to Canal Street. I walked on the same sidewalk on the right side of Bourbon Street and Canal that the terrorist used to go around the police barricade. My wife saw a report that the terrorist wanted to go at midnight for maximum effect. I don't feel I cheated death, nothing like that, but it drives home the point that life and death can be so random.

As for the game, we were initially all disappointed that it is postponed but we now know it's the right thing to do. I imagine once the game starts everyone will be happy it does and our focus will turn to the game.
