For wildfire like current one in California, you always need both air attack and ground game.
You use fire fight planes to attack the fire at first and then use firefighters on the ground to finish the job.
Enough said about the ground game. Poor water management limited fire fighters' ground game as we've known, "completely dry" situation.
So, air attacking is becoming more important. But California doesn't have the most advanced fire fighting plane. (Canadian CL-415, currently used, is a very good fire fighting plane, but it is still small for large California wildfire). Why?
Because the US has sanctioned the best fire fighting plane in the world.
