increased since early 1990s when I came to U.S.. but turn out of local elections decreased in the same period. In my state Washington, the turnout of local elections in 2023 was 37% , the lowest since they started to measure turnout which was 1936. The turnout of local elections becomes higher only when they matters in national level politics. See Georgia senator election of 2022.
Voters stay away from issues related to them more and known by them more, but go after the issues they are not familiar with or the issues very abstract to them. That's weird to me.
