I agree that the science of sports has dramatically improved, and I agree with you that it needs to be kept in mind when comparing players from different eras of a game.

I don't know that I think the players are drastically any better today skill wise than they were 40 years ago though. Athletically, not sure how to measure that, but nutrition and training should make it better overall.
