I'm not the hoops aficionado that Chris and Hensou and others are, so I won't show my ignorance there. But certainly in baseball, one can identify the raw fielding skills that are lacking in many "star" players today. Anecdotally, guys drop pop-ups and boot grounders way more than when I was a kid. There's perhaps an argument that these "smaller" skills get less focus vs. the big ones (home runs, swing, getting stronger, throwing harder, etc.) as young players develop today.
