The question is why would you do it? Most members don't want super-fast, ridiculous greens because when they go to the club they go to enjoy spending time with their buddies and have some fun. Golfers, at least normal golfers, don't go to the club to grind every round. They just don't. At our courses, the greens are sped up for the Member-Guest and the Club Cs, or when we host a qualifier. Other than that, members want a fair, enjoyable test and they can get that without having to dial up the greens to 14 on the stimp.
Oakmont does it so they can brag about it. Cool. No question it certainly makes Oakmont tougher to play. But the members at Pine Valley, Cypress, and Carnoustie know they have tough tracks without having to trick up their greens.
