Trump already has a primary opponent pegged to oust Massie. Trump doesn't think in terms of principles, so someone like Massie mystifies him. This is the basic reason that DeSantis (whom Massie endorsed for president) and his people haven't respected Trump and his people. The DeSantis folks correctly concluded that Trump isn't any sort of principled conservative. This is how Trump was so easily able to pivot on abortion once he figured that his previous stance hurt him and his endorsed candidates.
Touting his opposition to this budget should help Massie with his constituents, not hurt him. The GOP establishment tried oust his political mentor, Ron Paul, for years, and always failed. Newt led the charge back in the 80s/90s to get rid of Ron Paul. It all led up to this magical moment, which was so satisfying:
