The Democrats' new bill still encompassed sweeping election law changes, including voter ID requirements, expanded early voting, making Election Day a national holiday, banning partisan gerrymandering, and implementing election security and campaign finance measures.
The legislation would have continued to allow voter roll purges but required changes to be "done on the basis of reliable and objective evidence" and prohibited the use of returned mail sent by third parties to remove voters.

So....if the Dems really wanted to eliminate gerrymandering, why did they include these other election law changes that favored themselves so heavily?
Note the vague wording for allowing a voting roll purge - it would be child's play to find a liberal judge to block a purge outdated voting rolls by subjectively ruling that the evidence wasn't "reliable and objective enough".....and at the same time, Dems sought to eliminate the best method to determine if a voter is still legitimate to be on a voter roll...by seeing if they reply to a notice by a 3rd party.

No, this was a power grab where gerrymandering was used a the cover page to make it look better.
