The National Guard's primary purpose is to serve both state and federal needs, acting as a state-level military force that can be called upon for domestic emergencies and also serve as a reserve force for the U.S. military during times of war or national emergencies. They respond to natural disasters, civil unrest, and other state emergencies, while also being available for federal deployment in overseas conflicts.
