I think that they have to get a back & forth from each side....neither of which wants to concede anything. It is an uphill battle.

We cannot control Putin, but it would be a lot easier to get to a deal if Zelensky weren't obstinate about things. Then there could carrots offered along with sticks instead of just sticks.
Once a deal is struck, the place is secured by the West like there is no tomorrow. Because we know that Putin will be back if he can.
