Putin respects one thing: strength.
Sadly, President Trump has undercut Ukraine’s ability to defend itself.
Prior to today’s powwow, the United States should have imposed huge economic tariffs and sanctions against Russia, and announced substantial military assistance to Ukraine. Then, sit down with Putin at a neutral setting, and make clear that the United States will turn up the pressure tenfold unless at a minimum, Russia agrees to an immediate ceasefire.
It was unrealistic to resolve the conflict today. But, Putin left as the stronger party.
