What about the creation of this country and its founder's worry about factions?

You'd be sitting there going "We've always had kings, were always going to have kings, you guys are stuck in a fantasy world with this democracy gobbledygook!".

Our system of government was designed to be adaptable to change. The parties have been fighting change and the citizenry does not approve. This is quite possibly the biggest threat to the republic or "democracy" if you prefer.
