Antifaschistische Aktion, Antifa for short, was a communist militant organization in the Weimar Republic, founded and controlled by the Communist Party of Germany (KPD). They were pro-Soviet, and anti-mainstream.
They have been revived today as the modern Antifa, apparently hoping that no one will know what their name really means. They still use the double flag, the black and red colors, the raised fist logo, etc. that were common in the early days of this organization.
Everyone opposes fascism, which no longer exists (or at least certainly does not exist in the US, and to say it does, promotes violence). But, one can easily argue that Antifa is a fascist organization in that they use fascist tactics, even though they are technically communists. These leftists are the ones trying to silence free speech.
Antifa is named after (and uses same symbols as) Antifaschistische Aktion.
