The vast majority require the amounts you are getting at, six to nine hours per night. However, there are small minorities at the extremes, those who require 10-12 per night, and those who need only 4-5. I happen to be at the low end. Always have. I have both a neurologist-sleep specialist in the family, and saw a sleep specialist in the past. No apnea. My son is the same. In fact, at a very young age, he articulated the same exact thing that I thought at a very young age: "When I'm asleep, I'm missing out on things." I guarantee you that the dudes I mentioned think in the same exact way. It used to be called "Type A personality." I have and will work an insane amount of hours straight on a project or problem. I recall once spending 50-some straight hours on an intense job application process, so two nights without sleep, and maybe two meals over that time. When it was done, I went out immediately and cross-country skied to unwind. I did something similar "on the clock" at work, going 30-some hours without resting, to complete something. When I first read about Elon's boys working ungodly hours, uncovering waste, I was jealous. I would've gotten a charge out of putting in all that time and uncovering all that stuff. It's the same if I'm doing some landscaping project at my home. I once started to develop heat stroke symptoms building a rock stepway up the hill in my backyard one hot July day, just to complete it in two days. Admittedly, it's insane to the vast majority of people, but there are others like this, and they get things done.
