Too bad both parties have abandoned fiscal responsibility.
Right now, we just pick between which party we want in charge when the financial collapse comes. Personally, I'd rather the GOP be in charge. The world doesn't need another Soviet Union or People's Republic. It would take so much longer to recover, which would screw our children (and frankly, the world) far worse.
