I wasn't really commenting on ELP's post. I was just commenting on the slippery slope argument in the abstract. It is admittedly often labeled a logical fallacy. And yet, accounting for societal momentum is still a valid consideration in the real world. A wall is built brick by brick, and some people don't know when to stop stacking bricks. That is how nations fall...incremental debt, or incremental societal rot, or other incremental processes.
