Because the accused is a federal officer (as opposed to a Minneapolis cop), the US Department of Justice could invoke the Supremacy Clause and in effect, snatch the state case and remove to federal court.
Normally, they wouldn’t. The Feds would let the state sovereign prosecute the homicide, and the Feds would bring a separate prosecution.
However, Trump’s DOJ would likely snatch the state case away from Minnesota and then bury it.
Edit: The defendant himself has standing to remove state criminal case to federal court.
