Upon reflection, what was Europe going to do?

Europe couldn't risk the US pulling out of NATO. It would collapse. Trump added some rhetoric about maybe having to take Greenland by force, just to add a little pressure. Then he eased up on the latter and focused on emphasizing what would happen to Europe if the US pulled out. Unlike some European leaders, the NATO Sec. General immediately recognized that they needed to negotiate with Trump and told the Euro leaders that there was an impending deal that they couldn't refuse. Again, the foreign policy fundamentalists, think tank blowhards, academics, and apparatchiks fail to understand every time he does something like this is that the free world has no choice. We have the leverage. We can make them do almost anything. They're screwed if we pull out of defense alliances or put big tariffs on them. That all might seem crass, unseemly, arrogant, whatever, but it's the reality. They have no choice. Trump knows that and uses that to arrange deals for the US.
