Looks like he was legal to carry the gun and some mags.

Parents said he did not carry often.
Did he have “one in the pipe”?
The agents can’t assume that the gun had to be chambered
How experienced was he as a shooter?
Red dots generally require some practice, as does a
semi-automatic.
I would not be against an investigation in this case.
But I wonder why he would carry in this situation.
