To dismiss this is to once again say, "This is unavoidable. Inevitable. this si what withdrawal looks like".
Now, after screwing the pooch, no option is without problems. A planned move with Afghani allies being brought in by military personale to the airbase as well as to the Kabul airport would have allowed for a faster evacuation. Had VISAs been prepared ahead of time, this would have been way easier. Without VISA's, we still could transport these people to a holding area to sort things out over more time.
Wrt the base, i am thinking of something not unlike Guantanamo. It would need an "Iron Dome" -like defense. It would give us great reach in the area.
