The peace is always harder to win than the war...especially when you are fighting jihadists. (Look at how many muslims are attacking us domestically now. We fight true believers of the Mohammad cult (which is why we should not let so many of them into our country).
This is no ordinary war. It will likely last 100 years, unless the Iranian people choose to stop it.
Granted, democracies are notorious for having a short attention span, so, periodically, our politicians will lead the electorate to believe that the war is over. This will pause the conflict after major gains, allowing our enemy to rebuild and re-arm. Then we will be back at it again, only to defeat them 80%, at which time we can claim victory (again)...and allow them to rebuild and re-arm, and repeat the process. The war with islamism will not be a short one, and anyone who tells you it should be, well, they are just trying to make a short term domestic political gain to consolidate power for their party...they are not looking out for the best interests of the country. Democracies have a hard time showing backbone for such a long time. The only reason Israel can pull it off is because they have been under obvious existential threat all this time, and they have the memory of the Holocaust to keep them focused. October 7th showed that their enemies would repeat the Holocaust now if they could. Iran is trying to put us under that same threat; Trump is likely only postponing that.
Don't worry, though. I'm sure the Democrats will regain power, and start sending war reparations to Iran to help them rebuild and threaten us again.
