You can't aggregate power into government positions, and then expect those who just want to serve to run for these positions.

And, with more and more power at stake in each election, the more polarized people become. It becomes intolerable to deal with the other side civilly and wait calmly for 4 years for the next election. Everyone elected person is characterized as an autocrat, and needs to be removed as soon as possible by any means necessary... so much so that if impeachments fail, then even multiple assassination attempts are justified with petty sophistries like whataboutism.
