>Increase in Public Employees...actually, CA sits near the middle among all states in the percentage of Public Employees per 100,000 residents (#19)...lower than Michigan (#6), or FLA (#3)...so that shouldn't be a factor in his assessment of Governance...NB:...his chart shows step function increases after a) the Great Recession, and b) the COVID-19 pandemic...not surprising, given all the public assistance needed. TY ISN'T READING THE CHART CORRECTLY. LOTS OF GOVT EMPLOYEES PER 10,000 RESIDENTS IS CONSIDERED BAD IN THE CHART HE POSTED. CALIFORNIA HAS GONE FROM 4TH AS RECENTLY AS 2014 TO 19TH THIS YEAR. CALIFORNIA IS WORSE THAN ILLINOIS.
>Demise of L.A.'s Hollywood Industry...Fareed leaves out the Root Cause impact of newer technology on the traditional Movie Industry...i.e. Streaming...Digital Graphics...AI, and the effects on everyone from Screen Actors, Screen Writers and Set Designers, to name a few. This has very little, if anything, to do with "Governance" by L.A. public officials...whatever the party. THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH TECHNOLOGY AND EVERYTHING TO WITH SAG AND LOCAL LAWS. WHEN ITS CHEAPER AND EASIER FOR COMPANIES TO FILM IN OTHER COUNTRIES, YOU KNOW SOMETHING STINKS. AS AN EXAMPLE, I WORKED FOR A COMPANY WHO FLEW ALL STAFF TO SOUTH AFRICA TO FILM A COMMERCIAL AT A CHEAPER COST THAN FILMING IT IN LA.
>Emigration from CA...even FLA and TX are seeing significant outflows of their Lower and Middle Income residents due to extremely high Insurance costs (if available at all, outside of the state coffers) and Climate Change impacts (Flooding, Wind Damage, etc.) STATES TRADING LOWER INCOME RESIDENT FOR WEALTHY RESIDENTS, SEEMS LIKE A GOOD THING.
There are other root causes for such disruptions/challenges in many states...and I'll add another one...our exceedingly high and expanding 'Wealth Gap'...sometimes referred to as the "K-Shaped Economy". CALIFORNIA IS AMONG THE WORST STATES WHEN IT COMES TO INCOME INEQUALITY. IRONICALLY, THE WEALTH GAP SHRUNK DURING TRUMP 45 AND EXPANDED AGAIN WITH BIDEN.
