What happened in Afghan is so similar to China's civil war 1946-1949. U.S. backed Kuomintang (KMT) had military of 8 million equipped with U.S. advanced weapon. Communist had 1.2 million military, equipped with leftover of outdated Japanese weapons. How come KMT with such dominated military force collapsed in 3 years? It's because its government from low ranking to high ranking, all prepared exit before they even started fight. Low rank officials chose southeast Asia and Hongkong as destination. High ranking chose America. This corruption contributed to failure of KMT so significantly that even in pop culture in which there have been over 1000 movies, TV dramas about china's civil war, every one of them must have this corruption as background or story in its plot.
