very successful...and shown to be Non-Communist..."New Deal" Social Programs. Add to this, the reality the the USA did very well taxing the richest citizens...Progressively...up to 90% on their incomes in the 50's. So, an additional 2% NYC income tax isn't going to impoverish the City's most wealthy residents. Remember that the ratio of CEO to Avg. Worker compensation was 21:1 in 1965...while today it's over 300:1...especially in NYC.
As for your comments regarding other countries' experiences...note that most of Western Europe is much more Socialist than the U.S. and in no way will they ever embrace Communism i(or Fascism) n the future...they've seen it up close, and personally.
Don't forget that history also shows us what happens when a centralized Ruling Class ignores the needs and pleas of ordinary citizens...you get Revolutions, which never would have happened had there been honest efforts to satisfy the "Social" needs of the Populace.
One more thing..."Free Market" Systems do indeed have their flaws...including systemic ignorance of basic human needs...and that is what Mayor Mamdani is seeking to remedy.
I encourage you to read the attached NYT article with the headline..."Do Higher Taxes Drive the Rich Away? Mamdani's Plan Revives he Question"..
