A pathological liar (also known as pseudologia fantastica or mythomania) is someone who exhibits a chronic, compulsive pattern of extreme lying. Unlike most people who lie for specific personal gain or to avoid consequences, pathological liars often fabricate elaborate stories for no apparent reason, even when the truth would better serve them.
