If Cruz had been nominated, he would have been tied up in the courts and HRC would have met the standards of article 3 standing. Article 3 standing is what kept Soetoro in office. Aside for that, he may have stood a chance against her. The birther movement would have been out stronger than ever. They would not stand by and watch HRC go down again versus an ineligible candidate. Win or lose the battle in court, that issue would have destroyed Cruz. It was a factor in losing to Trump. It would have been a huge issue had he been the candidate.
