I support voter ID. But unlike GOP politicians, my intent is to have an election system with integrity. Their intent is to reduce the number of people who vote because high turnout almost invariably hurts GOP candidates. Registering to vote and obtaining an ID should be easy, not like a trip to the DMV. We could have stations at most polling places where IDs could be generated. When I say this, the alleged supporters of "integrity in the system" revert back to their claim that obtaining an ID should involve having to jump through hoops because, by God, if I have to spend two and a half hours at the DMV to renew my license, they can do the same to get an ID to vote. Or to deal with the SS system. That's nothing but smooth sailing, isn't it? Isn't that brilliant? They're full of crap and they know it. This is why beady-eyed, limp-dicks like Scotty and Rick Scott couple voter ID with things like reducing hours to vote and cutting down the absentee voting window. It's part of a larger effort to reduce the pool of voters. It shouldn't be difficult to vote and it shouldn't involve having to go through some separate system to authenticate yourself to vote.
Here's an idea: make it easier to be good. That includes performing your civic duties, like voting. You'll be shocked at how much less opposition you'll face when you make good-faith efforts to get people authenticated rather than supporting guys who aren't fooling anyone but the useful idiots who probably really do believe that this is simply an effort to keep ACORN Part II from stealing another election from them.
