I'm partial to natural places where I can feel really small (and humble) and can just sit and look at the immensity of this world.
1. Stanley Glacier
A couple of years ago my youngest boy and I packed a lunch and some safety gear (grizzly country) and hiked up to Stanley Glacier in Kootenay National Park and sat in the exact spot where this pic below was taken. We had the whole place to ourselves for about 8 hours (Civilization is a 3 hour hike then 2 hour drive away). To the left in that sheer rock face are some caves we explored. To the far left and out of camera range is the remains of the receding Stanley Glacier. We sat here, had lunch, watched the marmots play and talked for hours. I still well up just thinking about it. One of the greatest days of my life.
2. Jungfraujoch
Amazing place in the Swiss Alps. It's pretty cool to be sitting out on the deck there listening to avalanches BELOW you all day. That's altitude. My wife and I spent some time in Interlachen and took a day trip to Jungfraujoch. Very cool place.
