Back in the days of the founders, elected officials volunteered to serve for one or two years.
Since they were among the best and the brightest, the community, at large, benefited greatly from their financial acumen and tolerant, yet prudent, attitudes.
After a short tenure, they returned to their origins in the community and continued in their livelihood.
These days, it's a stepping stone to a career as a politico, regardless of qualifications...from top to bottom.
