Trump obviously hadn't thought about the issue of abortion for 2 seconds prior to his campaign. His early interviews on the topic were terribly embarrassing. He knew he was supposed to be pro-life (because he had chosen to run as a Republican), but he had no idea what that meant.
Not surprising. He is not a conservative or an ideologue in any way.
The only reason abortion became important to him (to the extent that it did) was because it was important to voters.
If you recall my posts on this topic during the election, I pointed out that it was better to choose an unknown than a known evil. I stand by that.
I suspect that he got a list of justices from some conservative. SCOTUS wasn't a concern of his at the time. He published his list to appease what he hoped would become his right-base.
We'll see how it turns out.
You seem to think I should be disappointed about all this. I will be disappointed if Gorsuch doesn't vote pro-life. But, I knew what I was voting for. I have no illusions.
