The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean, McCabe and Mrs. Miller, Dead Man.

Your first two are good. I'd put Bad Day at Black Rock and The Searchers in the top 4

I may substitute Peckinpah's unbutchered Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid for one of these.

As said below, is put Unforgiven and The Searchers above them. Maybe too The Oxbow Incident.

The Oxbow Incident, Giant, Big Country - Those would be three to binge watch.

The Searchers doesn't even belong in Ford's top three.

McCabe and Mrs Miller is good too. But the ones you list were better.

McCabe was a departure for Altman. Very dark and bloody, like a Peckinpah flick.

Then he made Quintet a few years later, which was even darker.

Jimmy Stewart was excellent in westerns.

Completely agree. I like the few times he plays a bad guy, too

Cast against type: one of the reasons I like Once Upon a Time in the West so much, for Henry Fonda's

He played villians before

jimbasil
- 10:34pm 3/22/17
Yes he did, but it was still against type.

Not in Rope and probably a couple others, but all actors turned in a couple phone-in performances.

What? I'll accept you having a strong opinion on your favorite films but when it comes to this
-
jimbasil

This is the part where you get emotional because someone disagrees with your opinions.

Don't invert things. I believe this is your post to my original post.

Correct, Jim, and you see the parts where mention "dialogue" and the wrong genre?

You're sticking with Blazing Saddles is not being a Western?

Yes, along with the entire movie industry and every Blockbuster, God rest its soul.

Well, lets ask Rober Ebert what genre this film is. Mr. Ebert?

Agreed, it's a comedy first.

Vertigo & Rear Window, come to mind.

Hard to believe Vertigo was largely panned at the time.

Hitch did have a stable of pretty leading ladies, which didn't hurt, either.

Most are partial to Grace, but I'm partial to Tippi.

Unforgiven is as good.

I liked it well enough but I'd rather the Missouri Breaks before this. How about Shane?

No mention of Johnny Guitar???

MAS

Sure Johnny Guitar - How's about Vera Cruz too? I'm not much of Wayne fan so though I liked

Pretty subjective topic. I like True Grit as well.

That's the first one mentioned that could be better than the ones I named.

Counterpoint...Silverado. Had a nice dark humor to it.

As for Liberty Valance there are possibly dozens.
-
jimbasil
- 9:19pm 3/22/17
The Searchers isn't on the same level as LIberty Valance, by virtue of dialogue alone.

Tell me about Lady Gaga and how she isn't all that talented - you did better there.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, The Magnificent 7 (2016), and Tombstone

You're going with a remake of The Magnificent Seven?

I think it was THAT good, yes.

The Wild Bunch is not my top but is on the list of many as a top film but yours are not.
