The U.S. lost 400,000 in both theaters of war (less than 1% of the wars' casualties). American businesses made piles of money. Our "sacrifices" pale beside those of our allies.
The people back home all had good production jobs and had money in their pockets for the first time in 20 years. Americans of the war years who were not draftable remember those times fondly. For the most part, they had a great time.
